Rajesh Prasad Khatri

Rajesh Prasad Khatri is a self-taught filmmaker and primary school teacher. His debut short film, A Curious Girl (2017), won Best Film in the Generation Kplus section at the Berlinale International Film Festival in 2018. His second short, A Scarecrow (2020), received the President’s Special Recognition Story Pitching Award (AFA-MPA), won the 75th UNICEF Iris Award at the UNICEF Innocenti Film Festival, and premiered at the Busan International Film Festival.

His third short film, A Doll Under the Basket (2026), produced by Flicker Arts Entertainment, will have its world premiere at the Busan International Film Festival.

An alumnus of the Asian Film Academy and Berlinale Talents, Khatri is developing his first feature film, Black and White Photo, which has been selected for the Asian Project Market (APM), Berlinale Talents Script Station, Festival des 3 Continents – Produire au Sud, LA Residency (GMM), and Gograha Residency. The project also received the Script Development Fund from the Asian Cinema Fund (ACF). He is simultaneously developing another feature film under the production of Flicker Arts Entertainment The Speechless Mountain.

Professional Highlights

  • 2015 – Entry into Filmmaking: Began his filmmaking career as Production Manager on the acclaimed Nepali feature film Kalo Pothi (The Black Hen).
  • 2018 – Berlinale & Busan: His debut short film A Curious Girl won Best Film – Generation Kplus at the Berlinale International Film Festival and premiered at the Busan International Film Festival.
  • 2019 – Direction Training: Completed a short-term Direction Course and directed one of the four directors of the short film Clear Waters.
  • 2020 – A Scarecrow: Received the President’s Special Recognition Story Pitching Award (AFA-MPA) and won the 75th UNICEF Iris Award at the UNICEF Innocenti Film Festival. The film premiered at the Busan International Film Festival.
  • 2021 – Wheels on the Bus: Co-writer and producer of the short film, which premiered at the Berlinale International Film Festival.
  • 2022 – Yet Another Winter: Co-writer and co-producer of the short film, which premiered at the Busan International Film Festival.
  • 2024 – Shambala: Worked as Associate Producer on the Nepali feature film Shambala.
  • 2026 – A Doll Under the Basket: Writer/director of the short film, produced by Flicker Arts Entertainment, selected for the Asian Short Film Competition at the Busan International Film Festival for its world premiere.
  • International Training: Alumnus of the Asian Film Academy (South Korea), Global Media Makers (USA), and Berlinale Talents (Germany).
  • Feature Film – Black and White Photo: Selected for the Asian Project Market (APM), Berlinale Talents Script Station, Festival des 3 Continents – Produire au Sud, LA Residency (GMM), and Gograha Residency. The project also received the Asian Cinema Fund (ACF) Script Development Fund.
